I was first licensed on 9 February 1971 (WN2TAW)— became WN4OMM in 1975—WB4OMM in 1976.
My station is a Yaesu FT-767GX HF/VHF/UHF Transceiver and FL-7000 Solid State 600W Amplifier to a 280' loop anteanna @ 45 feet—totally computer controlled. I use the LOGic logging program (with the built-in MixW interface and RigBlaster Plus for digital modes) and it controls everthing from logging, looking up, and adding the QSO information from the rig and license databases (it’s defaulted to the QRZ.COM lookup—when we QSO I can see you too!).
The FL-7000 amp is also interfaced to the rig, and I can run 600W to the antenna system with the flip of a switch. I can also run 160W on 2M VHF All Modes (Kenwood TR-700A) and have a dedicated 2M 75W Yaesu FT-2900 with a Ringo Ranger II at 35 feet. I’m in my new “dog house” (ham shack) - a 10×14 exterior building fully insulated and finished, with 100A service, A/C (yeah, it gets hot in Florida!), fully equipped workbench, and more—including a complete internet enabled weather station and ShackCam!!!
I work all bands/modes, from 160M to 2M, SSB, CW, Digital (PSK31, RTTY, SSTV), AM, FM, and I QSL 100% via LoTW, eQSL, Bureau, and of course direct! I work most of the major contests throughout the year if I can. I upload my logs usually the same day. I mail hard cards weekly (usually Monday morning via snail mail).
I enjoy the following associations:
I’m also active in the local community:
Of course paper chasing is a worthy pursuit, and I’ve collected some along the way:
Some contest results I’m proud of:
I am a retired Police Captain, Daytona Beach PD, and served as a certified Florida Professional Emergency Manager, a DHS/FEMA Master Exercise Practitioner, and was City Emergency Management/EOC Director (1998-2008). I have also served as an instructor, DHS/FEMA, National Emergency Training Center, Emergency Management Institute, Emmitsburg, MD, the Noble Training Center, Anniston, AL, and the NIMS Support Center, Somerset, KY.
73, Best DX, and look for me on the bands!!!
